Head Constable Raj Kumar Yadav was deployed with a CRPF contingent in anti-Naxal operations in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. On 3 April 2021, near Jonaguda village, around 400 Maoists launched a coordinated ambush against the security force column. Outnumbered and surrounded in dense forest, Raj Kumar Yadav held his position and continued to engage the Maoists, preventing a collapse of the unit's defence. He was killed in the engagement. Twenty-two security forces personnel were martyred. He was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra.
